This is what got us hooked on the world of dog shows and meeting some great people.
Judy has had Ridgebacks off and on for over 35 years, John just for the over15 or so years. Mainly the Ridgebacks were just our companions during those years although we did show a little when we took time away from competing with our horses. We both are devoted to the breed now and like to travel and go to shows during our vacation time. Right now we have three Ridgebacks: Tori; her half-brother, Hunter; and Tori's son, Hondo.
When our last Ridgeback (Starland's Impossible Dream - aka, Kelsey) passed away in 2000, we didn't rush to get another Ridgeback, instead we went to a few shows and one bitch caught our eye - it was Kate, owned and shown by Betty Scattini of Triggerhill. Kate had Best of Breed wins and Group placements; and she also had titles in agility. We kept on seeing Kate and Betty at various shows and asked to be put on the waiting list for a female puppy from Kate's first litter. Of course it took two years from the time we met Betty and Kate to get that puppy, but Tori was worth the wait. Betty was having too much fun with Kate in the show ring and at agility trials to take the time out to have her bred!
We were very fortunate in finding Triggerhill as they are a "full service" breeder - they help out with anything including showing, answering questions, keeping in touch and have become great friends. Jim was always the "videographer" at the shows and Betty and her daughter, Jeni, have been the main people to show Tori. When we go to a show that they can't attend, Mike & Lisa Patterson have been great friends and showed Tori for us. If those four were not available when we travelled, we usually had a professional handler show for us. Due to Betty & Jeni's show training of Tori, handlers find her quite easy to show.
Now that we
've retired and moved to Oregon, we hope to travel more in the future. But this year we're spending most of our time working in our yard and going to some dog shows - probably one a month or less. Barbara Dickson and Susan Weitz have been good friends in this area and have handled our dogs at the shows.
These past few years we've been enjoying all our dogs, doing some traveling, sometimes going to dog shows with Tori and wanted to have this web site -- because I like to take photographs of our dogs and their friends, our travels and share with people!
For more detailed information about Ridgebacks, visit the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of the United States, Inc. (RRCUS) web site: www.rrcus.org. Or email us and we'll refer you to someone that might be able to help you find a puppy, answer a question, talk to you about showing in conformation, rally, obedience, agility, lure coursing, herding and all the other things Ridgebacks love to do - besides being couch potatoes. Remember these are companion animals and they want to be with their people in the house and possibly in their bed!
