2009 Puppies1-22-10 -- Teal - now known as Roscoe - he will be going to his new home in Grants Pass the end of this month 1-12-09 - Pups are 9 weeks old today and starting to go to their new homes. As you can see, they've made a mess of the puppy play room. Some pups quietly sleeping in the crate behind. 1-12-10 -- Pups woke up and are out of the crate and scattered around the room and playing. We've had nice enough weather that we've been able to leave the sliding glass door partially open so the pups can also play outside. In and out access is good for the puppies at this age. 1-12-10 -- "Hannah" (red collar) and "Slick" (black collar) will be leaving for their homes in California on Sunday. 1-3-10 -- Emma and Norah from Portland visiting the pups. They'll be back in a couple of weeks for "Lime." Yes he soon will have a new name. Looks like Yellow is trying get Emma to hold her. 1-1-10 -- Now the tent is flat. They had such a good time with that tent. It's a child's tent and we must say with 8 Rigeback puppies playing tug of war with it - it is very durable! Guess it's time to open the door and let them play outside! 1-1-10 -- The pups were busy this morning. They moved the tent across their room and over the bed that was in it! 12-30-09 -- Three of the puppies checking out the snow on Wednesday - not yet ready to get on the grass! 1-1-10 -- This is the way the puppies pile into one bed to get warm after coming in from outside. Think that is "Green" showing off his chest and paw...and giving you the "look." 1-1-10 -- We're thrilled with this litter and love the way they look. How do you like "head upon head?" 1-1-10 -- It was sunny New Years Day and the pups got to go out and play in the yard. This is Purple. 12-29-09 -- We had a surprise snow fall on Tuesday - it was cold, but some of the pups ventured out. This is the puppy yard. We rented a chain link fence to prevent the pups from going all over the 2 acres ; ) 12-20-09 -- Puppies playing in the kitchen - pulling on a bungey cord. We have to find all kinds of different "projects" for them. Left to Right - Teal, Yellow, Red 12-20-09 -- Purple and Blue getting into something while playing in the kitchen. This is a good shot of their ridges. 12-20-09 -- Well, all eight puppies are in this bed. They sometimes use all five beds - we'll see one puppy in one bed, maybe two in another, etc. 12-20-09 - One of the five beds that the puppies have in their room. They sometimes like to cuddle though. They also have a small bed, the whelping box bed and a bed in the "tent." They are mostly litter box trained - so they do keep their room clean. When the puppies were out for the first time they seem to take right to the tunnel. This was before we moved the tunnel into the kitchen when it was too cold out. Back yard area for the puppies with their tunnel. We also rented a portable fencing so the pups would be restricted to one area of our yard. Slick had a busy morning playing in the kitchen; then he fell asleep on top of the Jingle Bell dog. It's amazing that it still plays Jingle Bells - the pups love that toy. This is the puppy play area (our former dining room). They have access to the whelping box, litter box and all their toys. When it warms up a bit they can go out in the yard. In the meantime we allow them in the kitchen for "supervised" visits. See the puppies do have more places to sleep - they don't all have to get in that small bed. They also have their big whelping box. This is the main part of the whelping box where the puppies mostly sleep, but sometimes they bring their toys in and play. The other part of the whelping box is the "litter box" filled with pine and cedar shavings. 12-09-09 -- This small puppy bed should hold one comfortably, maybe two; but four seem to fit in o.k. 12-09-09 -- The little puppy bed in the play area. Puppies trying to see how many they could get in there - how many do you count? 12-07-09 -- The puppies were out of the whelping box and into the play area this morning for the first time. A new experience for them. Green got tired and decided to rest on top of the Jingle Bell dog. The puppies love this plush toy - it's soft, cuddly, makes noise and the ears and tail move. 12-07-09 -- When I was in the play area with the puppies, my first reaction when I turned around and saw this puppy sleeping - was - get the camera! Don't think we'll top this for our Christmas photo this year. . . but then you never know when you have eight puppies running around. 12-06-09 -- Got them all sitting still and at attention for a minute. Left to Right - Teal and Yellow in the back; Black (Slick), Green and Blue in front. 12-06-09 -- Yellow in the back; Black (Slick), Green and Blue. All the pups are doing well. We feed them individually to get them started on eating by themselves. They really liked the Baby Rice mixed with goat's milk that they had today. 12-06-09 -- Yellow knocked Teal over and Green now has Purple down. It's so much fun to watch them play and bark and growl at each other. 12-06-09 -- Yes these puppies had a busy day and are all now resting. We feed them once a day, Tori feeds them off and on 24/7 -- poor girl, but she is still looking good. 12-04-09 -- Don't think this is what the "pig rail" was meant for - guess "Lime" thought he was on the "balance beam" - don't think he'll make a good gymnast ; ) 12-04-09 -- We put this "Christmas Dog" toy in the box with the pups. This "Dog" sings Jingle Bells and the ears go up and down and the tail wags. The ears and tail have bells on them. 12-04-09 -- Yes, the puppies get all kinds of toys to play with and lots of individual handling and testing. Today they had their front toenails trimmed with the dremel. They were all very good. 12-02-09 -- The "Puppy Pile" - all doing well, lapping up a little goats milk and learning to eat baby food. Tori is still the good mother cleaning and feeding the pups while we give them individual testing and handling everyday. 12-01-09 -- The pups are three weeks old today and they are really starting to play with each other. 12-01-09 -- See how this pup is really going after the other. This is the age that they start to assert themselves. 12-1-09 - This shows the whelping box with the "litter box" at the other end. We decided to put shavings in the whole box instead of just a small box in that area. Makes it easier for the puppies. 12-01-09 - Right now we have a "ramp" between the two boxes for the puppies to climb up and over. In a few days we'll remove the pig rail in the whelping box and that will make it easier for the puppies to get into the litter box. 11-30-09 -- This is the Princess (Yellow) trying on a jacket - it was the extra small size so too small for her. Due to the damp weather here the end of December and first of January, we are getting the pups jackets to wear when they go outside to play -- silly - right??! 11-29-09 -- Moving Day! Moved the puppies from the bedroom to the dining room. In the process they had to "go to jail" 11-29-09 -- They did not like "jail" and tried to make a break for it - but couldn't get out. They were only in there a short time - enough time for us to move the whelping box and add the "play/potty" part to the box. 11-29-09 -- Here they are resting in their new location after being stuck in "jail" for about 20 minutes. 11-29-09 -- This is the "two-part" whelping box. One area for sleeping and one for potty and sometimes play. It's amazing how they are learning the difference between the two sections of the box. 11-27-09 -- Gave the pups a few squeaky toys today - a couple of them acted like they heard the squeak. 11-27-09 -- Puppy finding the toy a bit interesting. At 17 days old they are just learning to walk, talk and play. 11-27-09 -- Pups are just starting to play and "talk" - that's "Red" with her mouth open and telling off the boys. 11-25-09 -- Blue sleeping - of course that is what these pups do at this age. Next week we'll have movement photos : ) 11-25-09 -- Lime sleeping under the "pig rail" - all the pups like to sleep under that - don't think they'll fit under it much longer. 11-25-09 -- Teal - you can see the shape of his ridge. In a few weeks the ridges will be more defined. 11-25-09 -- Teal sleeping. All of the pups are gaining weight, have had their nails trimmed, and are being handled. 11-25-09 - Yellow, this is our big girl, weighing in at 4 lbs. today. Several of the other pups are close behind. 11-18-09 - All they do is eat and sleep. In a couple of weeks we should have some really cute photos of them trying to move around and play with each other. 11-18-09 - All spread out so you can see them a little better. Except for the two pals in the middle ; ) |
